New Storage Breakthrough: Floppy Disks
Hitachi Maxell has a new optical storage technology: a sort of floppy disc. The idea is basically that it’s a super thin high capacity CD. This allows them to put a bunch of the the little guys in a cartridge for massively large storage in a small space.
My idea is that you put them in a 5.25″ plastic sleeve to protect them. No need for a full CD case. Take full advantage of the thinness with flexible plastic lined with a bit of felt to prevent scratching. Then, you could put a little metal slider on there that the drive pops out of the way to get at the goodies. When they figure out how to make them recordable, we’ll indicate that status with a notch cut out of the side. The future is here!
