A.J. Michael’s: Good Plumbers in Baltimore

After my basement flooding incident 2 weeks ago, I called A.J. Michael’s plumbing to come out and have a look. One of their technicians, Dave, came out the next morning to have a look. He identified that a leak had developed in the inlet fitting to the radiator in my kitchen, which had caused the pipe below to rust through and finally burst. While he either didn’t have the tools or expertise to deal with the 1920s plumbing, he was able to drain the system, cut back the pipes, and put ball valves on the end. He then told me someone else would come out the following week to finish the job.

The next week, they sent out a more experienced plumber, Dewayne, who informed me that unfortunately Dave had written down the wrong pipe size and he’d have to come back another time with the right materials. He was scheduled to return today between noon and 4pm.

He got there at about 3, and was done by 4. I checked it out, and everything looks good. The total bill came out to $300 ($50 to come out, $100 for Dave’s time, $100 for Dewayne’s time, and $50 for materials), which is just about what I was hoping, and way less than I feared. Overall a good experience, although it certainly did take a while. Thankfully Dave’s initial fix had allowed me to at least put the heat back on (although not in the kitchen).
