Maybe I should build an ark
So I went into my basement last night to pull my copy of Nuclear War out of a storage bin. When I got down there, I noticed a small lake forming and a steady dripping water sound. After about 12 seconds of investigation, I discovered that the pipe leading into my kitchen radiator had sprung a serious leak.
I called around last night, but couldn’t find a plumber who would come out so late (it was after 22:00). So I gave up, turned off the furnace, put a bigass cooler under the leak, and went to bed.
This morning, I finally got in touch with a couple places. Some wanted $100 just to come out and estimate, some wouldn’t go into the city, but I finally got A.J. Michael’s to come out for $39 plus $99/hour (in 15 minute increments), which seems reasonable enough for a good plumber.
My brother doesn’t have the tools or confidence to fix it, but he did tell me it shouldn’t take much more than a couple hours. My only worry is that on closer inspection I discovered it may actually be the radiator itself that’s leaking, not the pipe leading into it. I imagine that would mean needing to replace the radiator (and actually find a vintage one that matches the rest of the house) in addition to the work.
